A Good Day to Fly a Kite

My sweet boss has been telling me about a kite he has and would like Logan to fly. He knew that it was going to be extra windy today so he brought it to work with him! .....AND let me off early to make sure we would have time to fly it.

IT WAS SOOOOOO FUN!!

First, I apologize for the poor quality of the photo. It's a cellphone picture and I haven't taken one with the camera ~ so this is as good as it gets until you see it in person!

It is beautiful!!

Our Story in a Nutshell: We met nearly 5 years ago and started dating soon afterwards. Darin was Logan's baseball coach and the father to Logan's best buddy at the time. Jackson & Logan attended Oak Forest Montessori school together from about 18 months old until Logan switched school when he began Pre-K. Darin and I never met during that time; however, I remember seeing him there one day and thinking "oh my goodness, what a handsome man!....he doesn't remember ever seeing me:( Logan & Jackson attended each others birthday parties and spoke about one another often and still we never met during that time.

When I found out the name of Logan's baseball coach I was excited for Logan....never dreaming how it would turn out! Our first date was after the season ended and as the saying goes....THE REST IS HISTORY. Well, not quite.....

We dated for a couple of years and then took several months off....the hardest few months I'd had in a LONG time. We (he!) finally came to our senses and here we are!

The proposal on Christmas Eve came as a surprise.

I HAD NO CLUE!!!

Prayers are appreciated.

I know that if the Lord is not the Lord of our home it will crumble.

I will soon have a family of FOUR!

I am excited and nervous.

Good Golly - 40 - it use to sound so old!

My birthday was spent in Hot Springs! It was a surprise getaway weekend and it couldn't have been better!

I didn't know where we were going until I was in the car. This wasn't easy on Darin, I'm sure, because I kept asking questions: what kind of clothes do I take, shoes, how long of a drive, north/south/east/west, etc.....! He kept the secret well!

Good food, great company, a hot springs bath & a massage.....what more could a girl ask for!

He MADE me wear this shirt;)

If you've never been there - I HIGHLY recommend it.

It has a bath house in it which makes it very convenient!

Cheesy? Maybe.....but I love wax museums. Darin was a great sport and took me to this one!

We attended a wedding a few weeks back and it was BEAUTIFUL! Emerald is the daughter of two good friends - that I've know since my school days - and it was a reminder of how time flies. It's hard to imagine being old enough to have children getting married. Wendy & James, the parents of the bride, are an awesome example of true love. They have remained united when the world (now-a-days) says give-up and move on. I'm so proud to call them friends! I was blessed to be invited to such a special event in their life.

I am so blessed to have my MawMaw to celebrate holidays with. She is the only grandparent I have left and I treasure her! She was a mere THIRTY-EIGHT years old when I was born......wow....young enough to be my mom. She has been my best-friend my entire life.

I hope one day Logan will realize how blessed he is to still have both his WONDERFUL grandparents and his Great GrandMawMaw! He was also blessed to meet his other Great Grandma and Great Grandpa. I only wish he had met my PawPaw (his Great GrandPawPaw). One day he will.

I'm having one of those "everything makes me cry days" and reading all the sweet sayings on Pinterest is NOT helping. I often wonder why the Lord blesses me so abundantly. My life is blessed-more than i deserve. I am not wealthy and I don't have the newest THINGS. I do not live in a fancy house or drive a new bright & shiny vehicle. I don't have the newest fashionable clothes or shoes.

BUT - I do have my health and a healthy son.

I have a family that loves and supports me.

I eat everyday.

I have a nice home and a nice vehicle.

I have clothes that are nice and shoes without holes in them.

I have a great job and wonderful boss.

I have friends.

I laugh daily.

And...I have a Lord that LOVES ME UNCONDITIONALLY. Wow! I AM BLESSED - MORE THAN I DESERVE!

I LOVE candy! I have a MAJOR sweet tooth!

Did I mention...I LOVE CANDY!?

I am quite picky though. Chocolate is not my favorite. I don't have anything against a good ol' chocolate bar (especially if it's mixed with peanut butter) but I prefer Twizzlers, Hot Tamales, Jolly Ranchers, Nerds, ....did I mention - I LOVE CANDY!

Well....now I have a new favorite.

What in the world?? ONE Big Hunk IS all he brought.

Well, good news my friends! On the way home from Canton, today, I made two stops hoping to find a Big Hunk.

Yes! I had success.

I found a store in East Texas that carries them.

So, I purchased myself FIVE.

I've had my doubts about the daily pictures. The uniforms make every picture look just alike! However, maybe you have noticed his PERSONALITY coming out! He's quite a ham!

This week there is another difference in the pictures. BLUE JEAN SHORTS! Hudson PEP took up donations for the local Firemen. If students paid $4 they were able to wear jeans all week......well, everyday but Friday, they still had to earn them for Friday. Hudson PEP raised over $3000! Approximately $400 of that was from Logan's class. They collected more than any other class and won an ice cream party!!
Friday was an exciting day.

I got a new camera! I do NOT know the first thing about cameras. I want them to do all the work for me...so I have a new challenge in front of me. Below are some of my first pictures taken - YES! I know I have a long way to go.

I've actually made it two weeks....I have taken a picture of Logan each school day for two weeks now! THAT is quite an accomplishment for me. The only thing about these weekly photos are they all look the same because of the uniforms but trust me - it IS a different week.

As I sit here posting to my blog there are people fighting for their homes due to extreme wildfires popping up all over Texas. There happens to be one not too far east from my house. Scary.

Logan and I both started back to school today. He's having a MUCH better night than I am....being that I have my first quiz on Wednesday and I have 1124 lines of a poem to read and several pages of literature and he does NOT have ANY homework! I want to be in 4th Grade again.

Logan had a great day at school. I believe he has, once again, been blessed with THE perfect teacher!

As we started our journey to school this morning, the Lord layed on my heart the words of one of my favorite songs, "Find Your Wings", which goes perfectly with Logan's class mascot - the EAGLES. God is so great and His touch is everywhere.

I pray that each of you and your children will be reminded of this verse as you go about your crazy busy days.

And...the Summer is GONE.....

What a slacker I have been ALL SUMMER LONG. To say I am disappointed with my self & my blogging - or rather the lack thereof - would be an understatement. Logan and I had a fabulous summer full of long days and late nights. I didn't take the time to do much of anything, knowing that for the next two years my life is going to be one big BLURRRRRR. I start SFA on the 29th and with 17 hours of college classes, 40 hours of work per week, and spending time with Logan I knew that I needed to focus all my energy and attention on my VERY understanding son.

I have made a commitment. I am going to take a picture of Logan EVERYDAY for the next year and blog about the day. This will be my journal of all my blessings in the mist of so much chaos that is soon to come.

I hope your summer has been as fabulous as ours and I pray that the coming year will be filled with a lot of family time, love, and memories. And Off to FOURTH grade Logan goes! I know it's going to be a fabulous year for our family.

Friday the 13th was a GREAT day!

It started off bright & early in Ft.Worth at Texas Motor Speedway. Darin received a "race" from ~a certain someone~ for Valentine's Day & PreBirthday. It was on his bucket list.....he told me after the fact! Now he can check it off. He loved it and that thrilled me!

Then............I GRADUATED!!!!

Ok, now what!? I will go to school for 2 more years and then hopefully - get a job!!! I'm thrilled.

I am thankful for all the support from my family & friends. I can be a real toot while trying to maintain A's in school, work, be a mom, friend, etc. I would be lying if I didn't find myself overwhelmed more times than not. I know it will be worth it in the end. ((The best part of my graduation - Logan was SO proud. And really, it's all for him. My desire is to be an example to him.))

The 3rd graders went on a field trip to the Little Log School House and we (yes! I did too!) had so much fun. The children made candles and ice cream - the old fashioned way -, learned to square dance and walk on stilts, played old fashioned games, and went to school and got a little taste of no electricity and stict rules! We ended the day with a picnic.

It was a great day!

I do NOT like having pictures taken of me - it just does not feel natural. I always GASP when looking at pictures of myself - hoping I don't really look like THAT (ugh!). Logan on the other hand LOVES having his picture taken and usually tells the photographer how he wants to pose!

Little Man is NINE!

Where do the YEARS go?

This year I decided that we weren't going to have a HUGE party like we have the past eight years. I thought something much smaller would be better so Logan invited NINE friends to SLEEPOVER (I know, WHAT WAS I THINKING!?!?). Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better group of boys. I am ALMOST ready to do it again!

We had a campfire (supervised by dad, Mr. Phillip, Mrs. Vikki, & Jackie ~ thank yall!) where we cooked hot dogs and smores ~ we had plenty of chips, plenty of drinks, and yummy cookie cake (with the coolest #9 sparkler candle). We had activities going on everywhere ~ outside we had acrobats on the trampoline, skateboarders, bike riders, runners and inside we had video games going on three different tv's plus the DS's and DSi's that were brought! (Thank you for the trampoline supervision Carly!) (Thank you Mom for saving the night and running into town and purchasing the correct controller for the XBox and thank you Lara & Shannon for sticking around and helping inside.) (And thank you to all that came ~ adults & children ~ that made Logan's birthday so special.)

Around midnight, when I couldn't go any longer I coaxed all the boys to the living room so we could watch How To Train a Dragon. I just knew that laying down would get the boys calmed and ready to sleep but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - I had to coax them to sleep....around 2 a.m. I got a really good nights sleep - until they were ready to go again at 6:30 a.m. Oh boy! To be NINE again!

Monday, Logan's actual birthday, I took cookies to his class for his classmates to enjoy. I'm so thankful that Hudson PEP allows us to do such a thing! And, to top the day off, Logan was treated to Papacita's for supper. The staff sang to him and he wasn't so sure what to think about that ~ he was a bit embarrassed!

All in all I believe that this years celebration was a success!

Nine Years Ago (and a few days)

On October 18, 2001 all my dreams came true! There wasn't anything I wanted more than to become a mom but when I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 21 I thought my dream would never come true. Obviously God could see years down the road and He had bigger and better plans than I could have ever imagined. I was blessed with the most beautiful baby I'd ever seen!

My sister and brother-in-law came into town a couple of weeks ago to celebrate their TWENTY-FIFTH Wedding Anniversary.....their choice of restaurants was Johnny Cace's (a very established seafood restaurant in Longview).....it is a more elegant dining experience and not a "loud" environment.....well, not until this night!

We had been at our table for a lengthy amount of time and (all) the boys were getting restless and decided to walk around. Lauren, Monica, and I were sitting at the table when a group of waiters/waitresses came out of the kitchen singing Happy Anniversary. We were looking around to see where they were going....yes! You guessed it ~ they were coming to our table! Monica & I were sang to!!! It was hilarious and we received some looks ~ WE thought it was hysterical! ((Hence the pictures of us (pretend) kissing!))

The first week was a total success! Logan loves his teacher and says that 3rd grade days go by faster than his other grades! I think that's a good thing.

I can't believe that I have a 3rd grader. Thinking back (a long time ago) - I remember 3rd grade being my favorite. I hope that this will be that kind of year for Logan as well.

Hudson PEP doesn't play around....he had his first spelling test this week (He made a 105!) which included genre, illustrator, and other HARD words....he will soon surpass me in all his knowledge!

First...I will admit that I STINK at using my camera. There are TOO many options for picture taking. All I want to do is point and click and have a PROFESSIONAL! looking picture. UGH! Hopefully you can see Logan in some of these pictures.

Today was the end of summer program at Oakland Heights. I was so impressed that they took the time to learn and perform this musical. I'm blessed that Logan is able to attend after-school care and summer at OHBC. Logan did not have a part in the play because 1. He was out for most of the weeks leading up to the performance and 2. He doesn't do parts!

As I was sitting and listening & watching these children perform I began thinking.

Children are gifts from God.

I love my son.

I am thankful that God chose ME to be Logan's mommy.

What a HUGE responsibility parenting is.

I find myself overwhelmed, at times, with single-motherhood.

I wish I could be a Stay-at-Home Mom (most days!).

I am thankful for my wonderful boss that allows me the time to be at ALL of Logan's programs/parties/etc.

I am thankful for parents that love Logan and me - UNCONDITIONALLY!

I have really great friends.

The Lord sent His son to die on the cross for ME.

If I could choose anyone to change places with...I wouldn't.

I overthink - yes, I know!

I sometimes wonder if I love Logan, as much as I do, because I wanted him so badly. I knew I would never be able to "have" my own child and there was never a guarantee that I would have an "adopted" child. Logan truly IS a gift (if you don't believe this - go back and read my 1st post!)! I'm sure I don't love Logan anymore than any other parent and I'm sure I don't cherish everything as I should but there's no doubt that when I look at Logan I see Jesus and I am thankful for that.

To my surprise he actually smiled when he saw me (instead of frowning like last year) but didn't want a hug when anyone was looking. I can live with that, at least I got a smile!

I LOVE Pine Cove.

I would highly recommend it to any parent/child that is able to go (even though the separation is bittersweet...but in the end - worth it). If the week the children are there is as full of the Spirit as it is during Closing Ceremonies, I can certainly understand the children's tears upon leaving.

When I think of Logan growing up and wonder what he will be when he "grows-up" I can't help but believe that as long as he is a Godly Man everything else is secondary. My prayer for Logan is that he falls in love with the Lord more everyday. What could be better than saying your child is sold out for the Lord?

Yes, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic with Logan being at camp and all!

I took Logan school shopping last week to purchase his uniforms and let him pick out his new school shoes. The uniforms were easy.....the shoes....NOT so much!

He walked up and down the shoe aisle looking at all the shoes - and prices.

Now, I do not discuss our financial matters with him. I don't think that should be a concern for an eight year old little boy. I have however, for a LONG time, given him money for certain things and helped him divide it into 3 parts (10% tithe, 50% savings, and 40% for him) but as far as putting financial burden on him - I do not.

So - back to the shoes.....he found a pair of shoes that he really liked (and I liked too)! I could see him hesitating as he picked the shoes up and admired them and put them back. He finally settled on a $9.99 pair of shoes. I knew those were not the shoes he wanted so I asked him why he chose those. He said that they were only $9.99 and felt I could afford those better than the ones he wanted. I told him to please pick the shoes he wanted and not worry about the cost and he asked if I was sure. Of course, I said....yes (only because he never goes too overboard!). He went back to the pair that he had picked up several times and admired and said....these are the ones I like but they are $00.00 Everyday! I said, "ok, let's get them". He was still very concerned that they were a good choice and if I really approved. He then wanted to know why their pricetag had an exclamation point behind it ($00.00 Everyday!) because he did NOT think that $00.00 EVERYDAY was a good deal. It then dawned on me that he thought I would have to pay THAT AMOUNT EVERYDAY!!! I couldn't help but burst out laughing!! He didn't understand my laughter....I had to explain to him that the "EVERYDAY" meant that it wasn't a "Sale" Price!! My sweet~sensitive son was concerned that we would go broke paying that amount EVERYDAY.

Today was one of the days I've been dreading and looking forward to for a YEAR. Logan is at camp. This is his second year to go to Pine Cove and I do believe it was harder at drop-off this year than last. It's ONLY because I know the Lord loves Logan more than I do that I was able to drop him off with 100's of strangers. He was excited and that's good enough for me! I told myself early on that I would not be THAT parent that held on too tightly to their child and so far I've done fairly well. I want Logan to have the confidence to try new things and KNOW that he CAN accomplish them. It's a BIG deal (to me) that he has gone to camp two years in a row without knowing ONE person. I pray that he stays healthy, hydrated, and actually eats while there. I pray he has the sweetest dreams each night and has more fun during the day/evening than he has had all summer. And most importantly, I pray that his walk with the Lord is strengthened and grows to a new level. It also helps to know that we are both looking at the same moon. I will be counting down the hours til I pick him up! (9 a.m. Saturday morning)

Gone Fishin' ~ Faith Explosion Kids Camp 2010

I had the honor of teaching at FAITH EXPLOSION Kids Camp, once again, this year - I think it was my 8th year. Next year Logan will FINALLY be old enough to attend.....so I hope I'm asked to teach for atleast 4 more years! Our theme this year was "Gone Fishin'".....it made me think about how much fishin' I do. Am I an example for Christ? Am I making footprints that I want Logan to walk in? Am I sharing my faith BOLDLY? Do people see Christ in me? All thoughts to ponder on.

This was the 1st year that Logan hasn't attended camp on Sunday night (Parent's Night)....it was pretty tough for me. However, he went on vacation with his Mimi and said he had a great time! I guess I couldn't ask for more! ((I did take Logan to camp on the 2nd camp's parent's night. He "got down"!))

We were blessed to have Bubba Wright as camp pastor (I highly recommend) and Dan Carson & The Honey Grove Ball Team as worship leaders (I highly recommend) - I don't think you could ask for a better team.

"My" girls won a golden dust pan for having the cleanest cabin! Yea! Go Girls!! We've never won that before. It was a GREAT time at camp - I'm already ready for next year!

On Sunday, for the 4th of July, I was able to spend the day with some of my family in Joaquin. It was a rare occasion that, most of my moms side of the family, was able to be together. It is always a good time - with good food - and LOTS of laughs! We were able to get pictures of my MawMaw with her two children (my mom & Uncle Steve), grandchildren, and great grandchildren (minus two....we missed you Shelby and TJ)! My MawMaw was in tears because she doesn't have any pictures of all of us together.

When word of my 20 year reunion began circulating, I began feeling (VERY) nervous and contemplated not going. I began to think back over the past 20 years and think about what I had accomplished or better yet - what I haven't accomplished. I haven't finished college (yet!.....almost! Or at least I see light at the end of the tunnel), I don't live in a big house, I don't drive a fancy car, I'm a single mom, and I could keep going. I knew that none of these were truly important and yet I was worried that my classmates would think they were. I AM a Cancer Survivor (16 years now), I AM able to provide for my precious son & myself, I DO have a job that I LOVE, I HAVE had the opportunity to go on mission trips and love on others, I have several TRUE friends, I was given THE greatest gift ever - Logan, and I LOVE the Lord more than ever. I would say that on the outside - my life may not look like a success - but on the inside....I'd say the past 20 years have been the best 20 years of my life!

The reunion was a success! I was so glad that I chose to go. It went so much better than I ever imagined. My nerves were gone almost immediately and my classmates were sincere, sweet, loving, accepting, funny, etc.......It was GREAT!

We are privileged to have the AWANA program at our church. Logan was in AWANA Cubbies at 3 years old, then moved to AWANA Sparkies when he went into Kindergarten and next year he will move into the AWANA T&T Club. I can't believe that my "baby" will be in the oldest group of AWANA that our church has (3rd - 6th grade). Once again, I am reminded at how fast time flies. I highly recommend this program. AWANA is all about hiding Gods word in your heart. It doesn't get better than that. Logan received 2 awards tonight because he completed TWO BOOKS this year (that's A LOT of scripture). I am so proud of my Little Man!

Yesterday was the day for parties! We (Logan) had two birthday parties to attend (they overlapped in time and were 40 minutes, driving time, from one another) and they were awesome. I am so thankful that Logan and I are apart of a OUR church. We love it and (I'm pretty sure!) they love us. We had over 80 people at our End-of-the-Year AWANA Party last night. I do believe that we have the best group of kids ever. I love and I'm priviledged to be an AWANA leader to "my girls" (that I don't have any pics of from last night....it seems I only had eyes for one!)! This is my 11th year to be a leader in AWANA (or is it my 12th?) and I hope they let me stick around for atleast 11 or 12 more.

The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was delicious...I ate WAY TOO MUCH! Thank you Mr. Dennis & Mrs. Monica for your hospitality. You certainly have a beautiful place....I love how the pool seems to melt into the pond.

Well, Logan lost another tooth this morning! He noticed blood in the sink after brushing his teeth, so I proceeded to inspect his mouth and sure enough, his tooth was barely hanging on. I tried grasping it with a kleenex and my fingers but that didn't work. Logan asked me to please just "knock-it-out" like I did the last one. I really didn't knock-it-out......on purpose anyway! So, I did as he asked and roughly washed his face and out it came! The ToothFairy will be visiting us tonight!

I love Hudson PEP's field day! It is a couple of hours of pure fun and games. We are located at a temporary campus (and have been for two years), while our brand new school is being built, and we do not have room for field day there. Logan and I go to my dads everyday to feed animals and train the horse, it is something we look forward to daily. I decided to take Logan's new bike to Pawpaw's house because he lives on a street that you can actually ride on (as opposed to mine where people drive 70 mph). Logan has been begging me to get a bike so I can ride with him, SOOOOOOO today, for Mother's Day, I bought myself the prettiest pink bike ever. My feet barely touch the ground (I'm still learning that 5'2" is pretty short) and I don't know how to operate it (it has gears!???) but it is cute!! Today we went for a ride and wow.....did we ever have fun (and boy, do I hurt!)!!

This is my 8th year of being a mommy. EIGHTH! I'm so blessed that the Lord chose me to be Logan's mommy; it amazes me at times that I haven't gotten over the fact that He chose ME! Wow! In the past 8 years I have learned so much from Logan. I suppose I will continue to learn more from him than he will ever learn from me. I hope he knows that every decision I make is because of him (& Him) and that even when I fail at being a "good mommy" that it's not because I'm not trying. My greatest desire for Logan is to grow into a happy, healthy, strong, capable CHRISTIAN man. He is on the right track!

Happy Mother's Day to my mom; she gave up so much to make sure I had everything I wanted - when all I really needed was her love - and I know I had it and have it. I'm truly blessed. I am more blessed than any one person deserves!

What a fantastic day we had today.

It was breathtakingly beautiful..

Our electricity was off for 14 hours and I have to say I was getting a bit cranky (no heat/no coffee) but we survived. The first thing Logan wanted to do upon rising was play in the snow. I was a bit hesitant because once we got cold there wasn't a warm place to retreat to. Logan's begging finally got the best of me....so out we went. I finally got smart and turned on my seat warmers in the car and that was MY retreat when I got too cold (Logan never got too cold...youth!)!

We made and ate snow ice cream for the first time,

Logan made his 1st snowangel,

we had our first snowball fight,

he jumped on a snow covered trampoline for the first time,

he now knows what "yellow snow" is,

and on and on and on.

Hopefully memories were made

because we sure had a lot of fun!

A New Horse for Logan

I always wanted a horse growing up. I begged, cried, begged, and cried some more. (I also wanted a midget and a monkey but right now we will talk about the horse) I NEVER got one. I was mistreated and abused....Okay - not really!

Logan's pawpaw bought Logan a horse. It is a beautiful Arabian name Spirit. Logan is fearless with him - I am scared to death of him but put on a brave face for Logan!
